Yen Social Bali: Elevating Yakiniku to a Bold New Level

If you’re looking for an elevated yakiniku experience in Bali, Yen Social is where you want to be. This modern, high-end yakiniku restaurant takes the traditional Japanese grilling style and gives it a refined, contemporary twist. What sets Yen Social apart is their focus on dry-aged meat — a process that enhances the flavor and tenderness of the meat — paired with a special koji method that creates deep umami and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. From the moment you step inside, you know you’re in for something special.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Lulu, a key figure at Yen Social, who perfectly summed up the restaurant’s spirit in three words: fun, foodie, and bold. “We give 100% to our customers — from the quality of our ingredients to the way we serve. It’s not just about good food; it’s about making sure people leave feeling like they’ve had a great time,” she explains. “We want people to feel like they’ve had the best meal of their life and that they’ve been genuinely taken care of.” That level of attention to detail is what sets Yen Social apart.

During our visit, we were lucky to have Lee, Yen Social’s master griller, handle our meal. He recommended the Social Platter, which features three different cuts of beef selected by the chef, all marinated in their signature BBQ sauce. Lee was incredibly professional and informative, explaining how each cut was prepared and the best way to enjoy it.

What really stood out were the dipping sauces. The Yuzu Khoso was particularly impressive — Lee explained that it’s made from blended yuzu skin and green chillies, creating a spicy, peppery kick that reminded me of andaliman (a type of Indonesian pepper). They also offer a selection of salts to customize the flavour — kombu sea salt for an umami boost, smoked sea salt, and charcoal sea salt for a deeper flavour. To round out the meal, we had their Kimchi Fried Rice, which was packed with flavour and the perfect complement to the grilled meat. The mix of tangy kimchi, and savoury rice made it a comforting yet elevated side dish.

Yen Social isn’t just about the food — it’s about the whole experience. The ambience at Yen Social is warm and inviting, making it versatile for any occasion. Whether you’re out for a romantic date, a fun social night with friends, or even a family gathering, the space feels comfortable yet upscale. The lighting is soft but not dim, creating an atmosphere that feels cozy but still vibrant. It’s modern but not intimidating — the kind of place where you feel relaxed the moment you sit down.

Music is also a key part of the experience. The background house music adds a cool vibe without overpowering conversations. It creates just the right amount of energy to keep the atmosphere lively without being disruptive. Lulu summed it up perfectly: “We want people to walk away feeling like they’ve had an incredible meal, but more than that, we want them to feel like they’ve had a great time.” That’s exactly what Yen Social delivers — amazing food, thoughtful service, and a vibe that makes you want to come back.

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, catch up with friends, or just enjoy a memorable meal, Yen Social Bali should be at the top of your list. It’s more than just yakiniku — it’s an experience you’ll want to relive again and again.
