A Taste of Greece in Uluwatu: A good weekend at KALA
There’s something about Uluwatu that always feels like a little escape. The beaches, the sunsets, the easygoing vibes — it’s the perfect weekend getaway. This time, I stumbled upon something new: KALA, a beautiful Greek restaurant. And honestly? It felt like I found a little piece of the Mediterranean right here in Bali.
The moment I walked into KALA, I felt like I was somewhere else entirely. The space is stunning — earthy tones, soft lighting, cozy corners, and just enough open air to let the ocean breeze roll through. It’s stylish without trying too hard. You can tell that every detail, from the textured walls to the laid-back seating, was picked to make you feel at home, but also just a little bit spoiled. The atmosphere at KALA is easy and inviting, perfect for lingering, talking, and, of course, eating.
Now, let’s talk about the food. The menu at KALA isn’t overwhelming, and that’s what I loved about it. It’s focused. Every dish feels thoughtfully crafted, and you can tell they prioritise quality over quantity. Even something as simple as the village salad tasted like summer — crunchy, fresh, with a generous crumble of feta on top. It’s the kind of food that feels both comforting and a little luxurious at the same time.
I started with their Dolmadakia, a minced beef and lamb, combined with grape leaves and smoked sour cream. For the main course, I went for the grilled octopus and half chicken. Both were cooked just right: tender, juicy, and seasoned in a way that lets the ingredients shine without overpowering them. Every bite reminded me why simple, good food will always win.
To wrap it all up, we decided to share a Limoncello for dessert — and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Light, zesty, and just the right amount of sweetness, it felt like a little burst of sunshine after all the rich flavours from the main course. It refreshed our palate and left us feeling easy and happy.
As the evening rolled on, the music picked up just a little — soft, not intrusive — and the place started buzzing with the kind of energy you only find in really good places: happy people, great food, and no rush to leave. I ended up staying much longer than planned, sipping another glass of wine and just soaking in the night.
KALA is the kind of spot you just stumble into once and know you’ll be back. Good food, good vibes. I’m already planning to swing by again on another weekend when I need a little escape — maybe linger over a long lunch, maybe just pop in for dessert and wine. Either way, KALA’s definitely made its way onto my Uluwatu list.
